EU Directive Coming: Sustainable Product Packaging

28.05.2024

Starting in 2030, all packaging must be recyclable. Here’s what companies need to know and how they can find the best packaging solutions with GIM: sustainable, practical, and attractive.

This summer, the new packaging regulation is expected to be adopted by the Council of the European Union. It will take effect by the end of 2025 or early 2026. By 2030, all packaging must be recyclable. From pharmaceuticals to toys to toothbrushes, providers must act quickly and prepare wisely.

The Challenge

Many companies—manufacturers, retailers, exporters, importers, and so-called fulfillment service providers—are now faced with numerous questions about design and sustainable implementation. Additionally, there are increased due diligence and labeling requirements. Together with the recently introduced right to repair for consumers, a central socially desired vision is coming together: the “return to a circular economy.”

Targeted Packaging Research – Practical Solutions

The regulation aligns with the spirit of the times, as more consumers place increasing value on sustainable packaging. However, material and manufacturing are not everything. Appearance and feel also count to ultimately convince consumers to buy. Packaging is often the first physical and crucial contact between potential customers and the product.

The experts at the Gesellschaft für innovative Marktforschung (GIM) understand the importance of this first impression. We offer customized packaging tests to ensure products stand out pleasantly and convey the right messages. Additionally, we support key issues in sustainable packaging design.
